Somewhere between the tundra and the sky, Denali played hide-and-seek with the storm. Its summit drifted in and out of view, wrapped in curtains of mist that never fully revealed, never fully concealed. From Eielson Lookout, the McKinley River Valley opened like an impossible gulf, so wide and so deep it felt less like scenery and more like another scale of existence entirely. The light shifted — just enough for the clouds to lift their veil. For a breathless moment, the mountain filled nearly my entire field of view, its ridges glowing as the storm either softened… or gathered strength. I stepped behind the camera, hoping to catch the exact instant the mist parted and Denali stood great and ancient before us. This image is my attempt to hold onto that feeling — that sense of magic, immensity, and awe. If it stirs even a fraction of what it felt like to stand there, then I’ve shared the moment well.
